So after three years of various treatments and diagnoses, I have for the first time, today been able to get into the allotment and do something meaningful without getting sharp shooting pains up my back and down my legs.
The trouble is I am only allowed to do 15 minutes at a time, and as you can imagine after three years of almost total neglect, the plot is somewhat overgrown and in a bad way, (photos to follow when I have found the cable to connect the camera to the pc) and today’s 15 minutes does not appear to have made the slightest bit of difference.
At the rate I am going it will take three years to get the whole plot cleared but at least I am able to get on with it rather than looking at it in forlorn hope. I just hope that when I wake up in the morning I have no bad side effects, other than a few stiff muscles that are not used to being active.
The one thing that I did notice that even after all the rain we have had recently is how dry the soil is, it is as though we have had no rain for months, and my soil is predominately clay. I suppose it might have something to do with the couch grass that has taken over, taking all the moisture and nutrients out of the soil. So there will be a need for plenty of well-rotted organic material to be added to the soil before planting can take place.
Oops, there’s me getting ahead of myself, lets get the weeds and couch grass out first before I get thinking about planting anything.
Mind you the greenhouse is also in need of a good sort out as is the back garden, oh hell yes and the front garden too. If I start looking at it like that I feel so downhearted about how much work is needed. So I have decided to just plan on doing the 15 minutes a day and see how far that will get me, without worrying about how much there is to do.
Right then time for a hot shower and then a couple of beers.
See you all tomorrow.
